Summary This article will focus on some peculiar aspects of hospital-acquired bloodstream infection (BSI) originating in the urinary tract in critical care settings, particularly with respect to epidemiology and etiology. Pathogenetic and clinical features and diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures of the septic process, with or without shock, which can follow a urinary tract infection (UTI), will then be discussed.
