This paper deals with a numerical methods that allows to study masonry one-dimensional elements (columns, arches, walls in out-of-plane bending), accounting for the effects of the axial force. In describing masonry, a non linear elastic constitutive equation has been used, which assume the material’s lack of resistance to tension and its limited compressive strength. The method is comprehensive and applicable to structures with different geometries restrained in various ways and subjected to any given loading system; here it is used to evaluate the collapse load for circular arches subjected to their own weight and both to a load uniformly distributed per unit span and to a point load applied at the crown. Sensitivities of the collapse load reduction to the presence of the P- δ effect, whit respect to the constitutive non-linearities, is investigated.

Abstract
Sensitivities of the collapse load reduction to the presence of the P- δ effect, whit respect to the constitutive non-linearities, is investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
