Higher concentrations of the inoculum of Ophiostoma novo-ulmi isolate H328 and O. ulmi isolate E2 used to seed liquid shake cultures reduced the time needed to reach the stationary phase of fungal growth, but had little effect on production of cerato-ulmin (C-U). Production of cerato-ulmin by O. novo-ulmi and O. ulmi was abundant and scarce respectively. C-U was purified from the isolate H328 of O. novo-ulmi with a modified procedure and used to produce specific antibodies from rabbit. These antibodies were used to detect C-U in leaf extracts from Ulmus carpinifolia suckers previously treated with the toxin.
