The aim of this paper is to discuss trough a simulation study the effects on model-based small area estimates of some nonresponse scenarios and of some methods to compensate for the presence of nonrespondents. Both small area models at unit level and small area model at area level are considered and for both empirical best linear unbiased prediction (EBLUP) is used.
