Biografie verticali. L'alpinismo come cultura e la storia sociale degli alpinisti

Abstract italiano: L'articolo affronta un tema di recente interesse per la storiografia in generale e per la storia dell'educazione in particolare, l'alpinismo come movimento sociale e gli alpinisti come figure emblematiche della modernità europea. La questione è vista in relazione al tema del rapporto fra natura selvaggia e società, al rischio e alla sua prevenzione, al corpo e all'azione fisica. La storia sociale dell'alpinismo e degli alpinisti intesa come storia culturale è ancora tutta da scrivere e questo articolo intende rappresentare una prima messa a punto. English abstract: The article examines a topic of recent interest in historiography of contemporary age and in the history of education in particular, mountaineering as a social movement and mountain climbers as the emblematic figures of European modernity. The issue is seen in relation to the theme of the relationship between wilderness and society, to the risk and its prevention, to the body and physical action. The social history of mountaineering and mountaineers, understood as cultural history, has yet to be written and this article is intended to represent an initial set-up.
