We propose a mathematical model for the study of the temperature distribution in each component of a bimetallic strip, moving along a horizontal line, at a prescribed steady speed. A simplified model for the temperature averaged over a transversal cross section in bronze and steel respectively is considered. We prove that conduction in the direction of the strip motion can be neglected if the speed V exceeds some computable value.

Abstract

We propose a mathematical model for the study of the temperature distribution in each component of a bimetallic strip, moving along a horizontal line, at a prescribed steady speed. A simplified model for the temperature averaged over a transversal cross section in bronze and steel respectively is considered. We prove that conduction in the direction of the strip motion can be neglected if the speed V exceeds some computable value.
