The pentanuclear octacyanotungstate (V)-based molecules [Mn-II(bpy)(2)][Mn-II(bpy)(2)(H2O)](2)[W-V(CN)(8)](2).7H(2)O are V-shaped and packed into a broken chainlike structure (because of aromatic pi-pi stacking of the bpy rings) forming infinite linear columns. The compound exhibits intramolecular antiferromagnetic coupling between Mn-II and W-V ions, which leads to a high spin g-round state S = 13/2. Long-range intermolecular ferromagnetic ordering occurs at 0.66 K and prevents the observation of single molecule magnet behavior.
