Abstract

The influence of the nonlinear behaviour of structures isolated by a special class of fluid viscous devices on the seismic response of secondary elements, is analysed. Nonlinearities concern the superstructure as well as the base-isolating devices, the damping behaviour of which is modelled by a "fractional" viscous relationship. With reference to a five-story reinforced concrete plane frame, a parametric investigation was carried out by evaluating floor response (FR) spectra corresponding to different elastic and damping properties of the isolators.
