The quantum easy-plane XXZ model is approached by the PQSCHA method, that reduces it to an effective classical model. Quantum fluctuations weaken the effective exchange leading to a reduced Kosterlitz-Thouless transition temperature. Moreover, the weakening of the effective easy-plane anisotropy can even lead to a quantum mechanical suppression of the transition.
