Generalized nevus anaemicus in an adult

A 29-year-old white male presented to our clinic with an 8-year history of hypopigmented asymptomatic patches on the torso. Over a long period the patient had unsuccessfully used topical and systemic anti-fungal preparations for a clinical diagnosis of pityriasis versicolor. Dermatological examination revealed numerous rounded and oval pale macules of varying sizes (0.5–3 cm in diameter) with irregular but well-defined margins on the trunk, neck and upper arms. There was no desquamation. Under diascopic pressure the lesions became indistinguishable from the blanched surrounding skin. Under Wood’s light the lesions were nearly indistinguishable from the surrounding normal skin.
