Specimens of FSX 414 from test bars and components have been studied by SEM analysis of metallographic sections and quantitative image analysis. As in steels, the evolutions of carbide particles and of cavities are useful phenomena for evaluating ageing, damage, and residual life. The evolution in shape of heavy-metal carbides, detected with backscattered electrons, has been shown to be a sensitive parameter for ageing evaluation.

Abstract
