In the paper, some results of a wide experimental analysis, carried out at the Laboratory of Dipartimento di Costruzioni of Facoltà di Architettura of Florence, are reported. The results regard mechanical tests on scale models of masonry structural elements reinforced with composite materials. In particular, “beam” elements, arches and arches with spandrel reinforced with CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) and GFRCM (glass fiber reinforced cement) were considered. The objective was to estimate the validity of these reinforcement systems with reference to strength, stiffness and ductility but also with reference to general compatibility between original structure and reinforcement materials. The subjects discussed are very important within the context of restoration and the safeguarding of historical buildings. Therefore, in addition to mechanical and physical benefits, the aesthetic and historic characteristics (material compatibility and the need to respect the structural and constructive identity of the building) are of fundamental importance.

Abstract
Therefore, in addition to mechanical and physical benefits, the aesthetic and historic characteristics (material compatibility and the need to respect the structural and constructive identity of the building) are of fundamental importance.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
