Some main techniques of digital image processing are reviewed: local and point operators of linear and non-linear type, contrast enhancement and noise extraction techniques, edge detection, Fourier transform, digital filtering, etc. Along with the exposition some of the results obtained by means of the described algorithms are also presented. Among the many areas of applications, at last some examples of remote sensing image processing for land use are presented.
