The paper presents laboratory experiments and field measurements concerning the morphodynamics of a gravel beach. Field measurements concern an artificial gravel beach at Marina di Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, that is protected by a submerged breakwater whereas laboratory experiments concern unprotected as well as protected gravel beaches. The morphodynamics feature of the crest level of the gravel beach that is reached following a wave attack was monitored at the field site and in the laboratory experiments.
