A two-dimensional physical simulation of the performance of a detached breakwaters rehabilitation at Marina di Massa (Italy) is presented. A description of the study area is made in terms of accumulation and erosion tendencies of the protected coast, characterization and issues of the protection system. The experiments have been carried out in the 50 m long wave-current flume at the Civil Engineering Department of Florence University (Italy) in Froude similarity and 1/30 scale, with mobile bed of sand preserving Dean Parameter. Experiments are made decreasing the water depth in front of breakwaters and lowering the crest level, with the aim to study how to change the present system lay-out rehabilitating the recreational fruition without decreasing the protection of the coast. A total of 45 different scenarios have been tested under tree different wave conditions and results are compared in terms of transmission of the wave height and piling-up.

Abstract
A total of 45 different scenarios have been tested under tree different wave conditions and results are compared in terms of transmission of the wave height and piling-up.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
