A morphological analysis of the performances of a submerged groin system is presented. The work is based on a field monitoring campaign conducted since 1999. A description of the study area in terms of wave climate, depth of closure and equilibrium beach profile is presented. The morphological evolution of the protected coast after groins construction as well as local scours around groins is studied. The proposed shore defence system does not induce the down drift erosion usually experienced in the presence of emerged groins. The shoreline retreat of the protected coast has significantly decreased although the wave climate during the monitoring period has been slightly more energetic than in the period before the groin installation.

Abstract
A morphological analysis of the performances of a submerged groin system is presented. The work is based on a field monitoring campaign conducted since 1999. A description of the study area in terms of wave climate, depth of closure and equilibrium beach profile is presented. The morphological evolution of the protected coast after groins construction as well as local scours around groins is studied. The proposed shore defence system does not induce the down drift erosion usually experienced in the presence of emerged groins. The shoreline retreat of the protected coast has significantly decreased although the wave climate during the monitoring period has been slightly more energetic than in the period before the groin installation.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
