In this paper we present and discuss a complete distance learning system designed for use in teaching courses relevant to the first and second level degree in information engineering. The experimental sites involved three Tuscany Universities in Pisa, Florence and Siena, and the private educational agency SIDERFOR in Piombino, a small town whose social and geographical characteristics were considered suitable for the purposes of the project. The experiment was so successful that the project is now continuing with funding from Tuscany.

Abstract
