In the last thirty years, the evolution technology of windows was fundamental for the change of performances related to comfort and heat retention of buildings. Therefore it is analyzed the performances of these components in the legislation and in the technical context, characterized by thermal transmittance, solar parameters (light and energy) and sound insulation values. Finally, further technology development aimed to improve energy performances and comfort in summer and winter conditions are presented.
