During the Renaissance, hyperthyroidism was epidemic in many areas and the representation of goiter is very common in the works of art of that time. Agnolo Bronzino (1503-72), who was the leading court painter of the Florentine School in the middle of the 16th century, depicted this physical abnormality in many circumstances. The Authors provide another example of Bronzino’s interest in this pathology, discussing the possible reasons of this particular attention.
