The Maccarone sedimentary sequence (Upper Miocene to Lower Pliocene), located in the Marchean Outer Basin (Macerata, Central-Eastern Italy), was examined. The depositional sequence consists of a Messinian succession (about 210 m in thickness) including marly clays, clayey marls and evaporitic limestones. The mineralogy and geochemistry were studied. The results reveal a sequence of important changes caused by differences in the evaporation-precipitation balance and in the depth of the Maccarone Basin, associated with variations in marine and continental contributions from Upper Miocene to Lower Pliocene.

Abstract
The Maccarone sedimentary sequence (Upper Miocene to Lower Pliocene), located in the Marchean Outer Basin (Macerata, Central-Eastern Italy), was examined. The depositional sequence consists of a Messinian succession (about 210 m in thickness) including marly clays, clayey marls and evaporitic limestones. The mineralogy and geochemistry were studied. The results reveal a sequence of important changes caused by differences in the evaporation-precipitation balance and in the depth of the Maccarone Basin, associated with variations in marine and continental contributions from Upper Miocene to Lower Pliocene.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
