Prendendo le mosse dall’analisi di forme apparentemente arcaiche che permangono nell’ebraico tardo di Ben Sira’, il saggio considera il fenomeno della performatività che riguarda varie lingue funzionali dell’ebraico antico, dall’epoca più remota sino agli stadi più recenti di questa fase della lingua. Anche il participio, sia attivo sia passivo, in funzione performativa non è distintivo di un periodo specifico. Si può tuttavia notare la tendenza a un uso più frequente del participio negli stadi più tardi dell’ebraico antico. E’ comunque l’uso del verbo incompiuto ad essere particolarmente indicativo, non tanto di un periodo più antico o più tardo della lingua, quanto piuttosto come tratto distintivo e segnale stilistico della lingua solenne e poetica; questa caratteristica dipende in buona parte dal genere letterario. Through the analysis of apparently archaic features which occur in the late Hebrew of Ben Sira’, they essay considers the phenomenon of performativity which concerns various functional languages whether of the earlier or later stages of Ancient Hebrew. Also the participle, both active and passive, having a performative function is not distinctive to a particular period. It is possible, nevertheless, to note the tendency to a greater use of the participle in the later stages of the language. It is rather the use of the imperfect verb which is seen to be most significant , not so much as signal of the earlier or later period, but as a distinctive feature and stylistic device for poetical, solemn language; this characteristic much depends on the literary genre.
