Community-associated and healthcare- associated MRSA infections can be distinguished by clinical or molecular means.1,2 According to clinical criteria, MRSA infections are defined as communityassociated when diagnosed in patients with no risk factors. According to molecular criteria, community-associated MRSA clones are those carrying the SCCmecIV gene or a variant.1,2 However, DeLeo and colleagues’ paper does not clarify that these clinical and molecular criteria do not always agree.
