One of the capabilities of an efficient emergency management is to rapidly assess the evolution of the phenomena under study and to implement a h24 monitoring system, safe for operators and able to work with all weather conditions. Here an application of the GB-InSAR technique to monitor a landslide threatening infrastructures in emergency conditions is presented. The threatened infrastructure studied here is the A3 motorway in Calabria Region (Southern Italy). Between December 2008 and January 2009, during a rainy period, many landslides occurred simultaneously in an area characterized by hydrogeological instability, compromising road conditions and making rescue operations difficult. On the 30th of January 2009 a mass movement never detected before and located near the Santa Trada viaduct caused the closure of that sector of the A3 motorway. The prompt installation of a GB-InSAR permitted to follow the temporal evolution of the landslide until the end of the emergency and hence to re-open the motorway safely.
