The paper discusses the application of two recently proposed feedback control techniques for stabilizing chaotic motions to periodic ones in a CO2 laser with modulated losses. The first method employs delayed control signals for stabilizing unstable periodic orbits embedded in the chaotic attractor, while the second one is based on the cancellation of the subharmonic components of the chaotic motions. Despite the conceptual difference originating these two techniques, it is shown that the designed controllers provide quite similar control performance.

Abstract

The paper discusses the application of two recently proposed feedback control techniques for stabilizing chaotic motions to periodic ones in a CO2 laser with modulated losses. The first method employs delayed control signals for stabilizing unstable periodic orbits embedded in the chaotic attractor, while the second one is based on the cancellation of the subharmonic components of the chaotic motions. Despite the conceptual difference originating these two techniques, it is shown that the designed controllers provide quite similar control performance.
