Preservation of built heritage within a huge archaeological area should be based on updated knowledge of the current condition of the monuments. Hence, effective and sustainable restoration interventions could be focused on the most critical sectors. Processing satellite radar images with multi-interferometric techniques was exploited to detect and monitor the recent deformation (March 2003 – June 2010) having affected the archaeological heritage on the Oppio Hill. Different criticality levels were identified throughout the monitored area and the local conservators were given an updated hazard mapping, as a support for further on site investigations. The satellite evidences and the last severe collapse of the covering terrain (30th March 2010), close to the hypogean structures of the Nero’s Golden House, confirm the need of carrying out more substantial consolidation works.

Abstract
Preservation of built heritage within a huge archaeological area should be based on updated knowledge of the current condition of the monuments. Hence, effective and sustainable restoration interventions could be focused on the most critical sectors. Processing satellite radar images with multi-interferometric techniques was exploited to detect and monitor the recent deformation (March 2003 – June 2010) having affected the archaeological heritage on the Oppio Hill. Different criticality levels were identified throughout the monitored area and the local conservators were given an updated hazard mapping, as a support for further on site investigations. The satellite evidences and the last severe collapse of the covering terrain (30th March 2010), close to the hypogean structures of the Nero’s Golden House, confirm the need of carrying out more substantial consolidation works.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
