Within the COST1 programme, Domain ‘‘Urban Civil Engineering (UCE)’’, some major European laboratories in the field of Building Aerodynamics and Wind Engineering promoted in late 1999 the launch of an action on ‘‘Impact of wind and storms on city life and built environment’’, (called C14 herein, as this is the progressive code assigned by the COST secretariat) aimed to coordinate and create synergies and interactions amongst the main research activities carried out in the field in Europe. Sixteen COST countries have progressively joined the action, which had its official start in September 2000.
