Abstract

In the Editorial of the second issue of Techne, the A. introduces the theme of the contribution of architectural technology in the architectural planning, giving an interpretative framework. In the context of design disciplines and practices, architectural design involves the simultaneous presence of: processes of ‘imagination’ and ‘creation’; logical processes concerning qualitative and quantitative decisions aimed at foreshadowing the performances and characteristics of the works; logical processes concerning decisions aimed at planning organizational structures and actions. On the over, the term ‘project’ points to a system of actions and operators located at different stages in time and space in the process of creating a work, its construction, operation, maintenance and disposal. If the interpretative framework outlined is acceptable, does it make sense today to talk about technological design as a distinct area in the architectural project? What responsibilities and expertise are covered by the definition of «technological»? This is a key focus, not only because of its relevance in academic terms, but also because the design complexity requires collaboration between knowledge and roles, rather than a generalist approach.
