An archaeometallurgical investigation on some Roman (S. Giovanni, Magazzini) and Medieval (Monte Strega) ironworking sites at Elba Island (Tuscany, Italy) was undertaken in the frame of the "Aithale research project", carried out by several Universities (Firenze, Siena, Pisa) and other agencies (Soprintendenza Archeologica della Toscana, CNR, etc.). Results are promising for future excavations and detailed archaeometallurgical studies on this relevant iron district of the ancient Mediterranean area
