Simple molecular compounds containing Ln(III)2Cu(II)2 clusters (Ln = Gd, Dy) are reported. The magnetic properties of both compounds are reported and discussed. A spin polarization model is suggested to justify the observed ferromagnetic coupling between gadolinium and copper. The relevance of these data to the magnetic properties of high Tc superconductors is also discussed.
