The paper offers a preliminary contribution tothe geotechnical and mineralogical characterization of the clayey and shaly complexes involved in mass movements affecting some towns in Northern Appennines in Tuscany. The aim is to define the behaviour of these materials with respect to the slope instability. Various analyses were carried out in order to determine the relationship between both the strength and swelling characteristics, and the type of the clay minerals and carbonate content.

Abstract
The paper offers a preliminary contribution tothe geotechnical and mineralogical characterization of the clayey and shaly complexes involved in mass movements affecting some towns in Northern Appennines in Tuscany. The aim is to define the behaviour of these materials with respect to the slope instability. Various analyses were carried out in order to determine the relationship between both the strength and swelling characteristics, and the type of the clay minerals and carbonate content.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
