Samples of ceramics from the village of Coppa Nevigata (Foggia-Italy) which was inhabited from the Neolithic to the beginning of the Iron Age, were examined. The ceramics artifacts are mostly hand-made and fulfilled a considerable number of functional and formal needs. The samples selected are representative of the types of vases used in the different periods. They were analized chemically, mineralogically and petrographically to determine the materials which were used in their production and their sources, in order to subdivide the ceramics into distinct groups. The variation in production tecnique were then compared with the chronology and type of artifacts, in an attempt to measure the degree of standardization of the production, in relation to the type of oraganization and circulation of the finished artifacts within the framework of the increasing social complexity and territorial control that developed within Bronze Age communities.
