The unusual alterative phenomenologies in the lithic facing of the Collegiata di Empoli have been investigated. Some marbles slabs showed considerable deformation phenomena and all the materials was affected by a strong superficial alteration. The serpentinite slabs were affected by large exfoliation phenomena and by fractures. The alterative phenomenology of these two lithotypes has been related to their composition and structure, the exposure conditions, the placing of the slabs and the historical notes.
