Abstract

IG-MED08-477 EU funded in MED Program research on Energy efficiency in Mediterranean school buildings. Teenergy schools will set up an Action Plan and a common Strategy based on the experimentation of: energy saving techniques, integration of innovative materials and renewable energies (passive cooling) for reducing costs and consumptions. Besides, the project will realize good practice benchmark based on data from an Energy Survey in MED area, to provide representative values and compare the secondary schools’ actual energy performance. In medium long term, through other projects and initiatives, the Strategy will aim at improving and harmonizing the policies in the MED area and adapting the European directives also to Europe Mediterranean countries needs, where the energy demand caused by overheating summer conditions is increasing. The project aims at solving two common problems of the MED area: 1) the lack of energy saving benchmarks targeted to south Europe climatic conditions; 2) the low energy-eciency of school buildings. The Project operates in four important MED countries, including organizations representing eight dierent territories and the three typical climate conditions referred to coast, mountain and city: Provinces of Lucca and Trapani (Tuscany, Sicily - Italy), Districts of Paphos and Larnaca (Cyprus), Province of Athens (Municipality of Kessariani) through the actions of the Prefecture of Athens (Attica) and Province of Pieria (Municipality of Katerini, Central Macedonia) through Athens University (Greece), Provinces of Saragossa and Turuel (Aragon - Spain).
