The five olive cultivars (Olea europaea L.) Maurino, Pendolino, Leccino, Moraiolo and Frantoio were characterized by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) using eight arbitrary primers. the data obtained allowed the identification of each cultivar. This method, which is simple and rapid, should prove a useful system for the identification of commercial olive varieties.
