Archeometric research on pottery of medioeval Petra (Jordan)

The work presented here illustrates some results of the research project "Archaeometric research ad Studies for the conservation of Historical Heritage of the area of Petra" that an interdisciplinary team has been carrying out in Jordan. This project aims to analyzing the patterns of the western settlements system in the territories of the 12th century Seigneurie of Transjordan; it also aims to comparing these patterns with te settlement model of post-Crusader period. On eof the first aims was to buildup a references grid for pottery, based on petrographic and archaelogical methods to point out his character of historical source, for instance clarifying the technological and economic difference between early Islamic, Crusader and late Islamic production. At present evidences indicate change in pottery production from Crusader to late Islamic time.
