Disuguaglianze, redistribuzione ed equità nel modello sociale europeo

The protection of citizens from risks and uncertainty related to the market, the containment of social inequality through redistributive policies and the general ‘commitment to social justice’ are constitutive elements of the European social model. This article deals with the change in the relationship between the european social model, inequality and equity. We will firstly compare data on EU member states and then analyse the current structure and perception of economic inequality and how different perceptions of inequality relate to the question of redistribution. We will finally discuss some new emerging patterns of shared forms of social regulation of inequality which could be considered the basis of a renewed European social model shifting from a national to a transnational configuration.
