At Decameron X 8. 56-59 the character Titus Quinctius Fulvus refers to the views of certain unnamed ancient philosophers on divine providence and necessity. I argue that Titus is contrasting the views of the Stoic philosopher Chrysippus with those of other Stoics and those of the Epicureans, and that Boccaccio's source (whether indirect or direct) for Chrysippus is Cicero's De Fato.

Abstract
At Decameron X 8. 56-59 the character Titus Quinctius Fulvus refers to the views of certain unnamed ancient philosophers on divine providence and necessity. I argue that Titus is contrasting the views of the Stoic philosopher Chrysippus with those of other Stoics and those of the Epicureans, and that Boccaccio's source (whether indirect or direct) for Chrysippus is Cicero's De Fato.File in questo prodotto:
