This paper is about the project called“From Jupiter and Juno to Barbie & Ken: an intervention on bullying and discrimination related to gender stereotypes”, that was created and promoted by IREOS (a volunteer center for the Queer comunity in Florence) and that, since 2008, has been part of “Le Chiavi della Città”, a set of training courses for schools sponsored by the City of Florence. In particular, the project is divided into four sessions of two hours each. Each meeting is led by a psychologist and by a volunteer and includes an experiental-interactive moment followed by discussions and group reflections. The main objectives of the project are: understanding the definition and action of stereotypes, to define their relationship with prejudice and discrimination; developing specific skills to be able to recognize and reflect on both gender stereotypes and the dynamics of discrimination in our culture; fostering the ability to overcome gender stereotypes and roles when knowing the other; encouraging the development of a free, flexible and non stereotypical sexual identity; finally preventing homophobic bullying.
