PENILE PROSTHESES

This paper discusses the indications, techniques, results and complications of penile prosthesis implantation. The indications are failed conservative management , Peyronie's Disease and priapism. Recently we advocate implantation in cases of acute low flow priapism as corporal dilatation is easier done early than late when fibrosis has occurred and the penis has been shortened. So far 11 patients with acute priapism have been treated this way with only 1 infective complication. The results and complications of the author's series of over 350 cases will be presented and compared to those in the literature with a particular emphasis on the management and prevention of prosthetic infections with the aid of new device technology, resist and inhibizone.
