Transformation of alpha-cyclodextrin hexahydrate form I in te amorphous state may occur with ageing and can also be induced by grinding. The relative decrease in crystallinity can be followed using X-ray powder diffractometry. The amorphous materials displayed similar thermal properties but different tendency to recrystallize upon rehydration.
