A detailed investigation of metal-semiconductor-metal UV photodetectors based on polycrystalline diamond film is presented. The roles of material quality, device configuration (planar or sandwich) and contact properties (blocking or ohmic) in determining both dark- and photo-electrical behaviours are particularly discussed.
