Showcase are becoming increasingly important for the preventive conservation of artifacts in museum collections. The growing awareness of this is due to the undeniable advantages of their use in the protection of artifacts from theft, accidental or intentional damage, environmental factors. All these advantages may become disadvantages if the showcase is not carrefully constructed and conservation requirements not achieved. The aim of this study is to compare the capability of active and passive systems to control microclimate inside the showcase. The results refer to testing carried out during the winter season.
