In order to evaluate environmental conditions of most representative italian museums during winter 1996 a monitoring campaign with passive samplers had been carried out in the whole of Italy. From the analysis of the results came out quality procedures and thecnologies important to assess, control and improve environmental quality. Aim of this work is to present guidelines to be adopted in order to control and improve environmental quality in historical buildings (museums, offices, etc.)
