Abstract

The paper reports the experience on the use of the Femlab multiphysics software as a tool for the electrochemical education. The equation oriented structure of Femlab keeps a constant view on the physics of the process, a desirable property for educational purposes. The program allows the models set up starting from the basic equations governing the mass transport in the electrochemical cell. Further it provides powerful postprocessing capabilities owing to easily check the behaviour of all the independent variables of the system. The simulation of three basic electrochemical experiments has been reported here. Potential step under complete diffusion control, linear sweep voltammetry and a simple electrodeposition experiments have been simulated in order to provide a unified picture of the electrochemical phenomena.
