In recent years, AMI patients have become older [1], [2] and [3] and with more comorbidities [4] and [5] but few data are available on the impact of comorbidities on outcomes in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) [6], submitted to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aims of the present investigation, performed in STEMI patients all submitted to primary PCI, are as follows: a) to assess the temporal trends in the number of comorbidities; b) to evaluate whether the number of comorbidities is able to affect mortality both during ICCU stay and at 1-year post-discharge; and c) to explore the temporal trends of mortality both at short and long terms.
