The paper concerns the use of attenuation measurements over microwave link networks to provide timecontinuous rainfall distribution estimates, evidencing the fact that the communications networks infrastructure can be used, and also that where a higher density of such links is available, tomographic reconstruction of the rainfall fields and accurate area rainfall estimates are possible, complementing and/or integrating monitoring capabilities of weather radars and raingauges.

Abstract

The paper concerns the use of attenuation measurements over microwave link networks to provide timecontinuous rainfall distribution estimates, evidencing the fact that the communications networks infrastructure can be used, and also that where a higher density of such links is available, tomographic reconstruction of the rainfall fields and accurate area rainfall estimates are possible, complementing and/or integrating monitoring capabilities of weather radars and raingauges.
