A comprehensive analysis of the tone noise emissions of the Avio acoustic cold flow rig has been carried out by means of two different numerical approaches: a preliminary analysis technique suitable for the early design phase and a 3D linearized method to be employed in the detailed design phase. This study was motivated by the growing importance of low pressure turbine noise in modern aircraft engines. Numerical results have been compared with experimental data showing a very satisfactory agreement and have been critically discussed in order to gain a deeper insight into the physics of low pressure turbine tone noise emissions.

Abstract

A comprehensive analysis of the tone noise emissions of the Avio acoustic cold flow rig has been carried out by means of two different numerical approaches: a preliminary analysis technique suitable for the early design phase and a 3D linearized method to be employed in the detailed design phase. This study was motivated by the growing importance of low pressure turbine noise in modern aircraft engines. Numerical results have been compared with experimental data showing a very satisfactory agreement and have been critically discussed in order to gain a deeper insight into the physics of low pressure turbine tone noise emissions.
