The measurement of high-energy, low-frequency current impulses, such as the one (surge) defined in the base standard, can be performed through a broadband current probe. Passive current probes realized by coiling a wire around a soft ferrite core are conceptually simple and inexpensive but sensitive to saturation effects of the magnetic material. The scope here is to provide the essential design criteria of a current probe for application to accurate 8/20 μs current surge impulse measurements.

Abstract
The measurement of high-energy, low-frequency current impulses, such as the one (surge) defined in the base standard, can be performed through a broadband current probe. Passive current probes realized by coiling a wire around a soft ferrite core are conceptually simple and inexpensive but sensitive to saturation effects of the magnetic material. The scope here is to provide the essential design criteria of a current probe for application to accurate 8/20 μs current surge impulse measurements.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
