The project "Mare Nostrum" - A heritage trail along the phoenician maritime routes and historic port-cities of the mediterranean sea, is founded by European Union, and involves Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Syria and Tunisia, represented by academic and public administrative entities. The project, coordinated by the University of Florence, intends to contribute to the promotion and awareness-raising of the heritage value of historic port cities of the Mediterranean Sea, scattered along the Phoenician maritime routes. In the paper a synthetic description of the project is proposed and an example of application of multidisciplinary approach for a re-qualification of a site pilot of Syria is described.
