The Project “Improvement and valorization of date palms” in the Al Jufrah Oases, in Libya, funded by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Foreign Ministry and coordinated by the Istituto Agronomico per l’Oltremare in Florence, in collaboration with the Libyan Ministry of Agriculture, was launched within the framework of the agreement between Italy and Libya aimed at strengthening and further developing relations between the two countries. The overall objective of the project is to identify technical and economic measures intended to supporting and enhancing economically the date-production chain, promoting the social and economic development of the area. Within this Project special attention has been given to the possibility of improving productivity, safety and product quality in date palm cultivation through the use of modern tools and equipment: this pamphlet, which has been produced in cooperation with the Department of Agricultural and Forest Economics, Engineering, Sciences and Technology of the University of Florence, describes the main field operations that are carried out in date palm cultivation and the relevant agricultural equipment that can be used for best results, together with a list of highly experienced Italian manufacturers that produce and sell the referred machines or tools.
